Barcelona legend Ronaldinho, who spent five years at Camp Nou at the peak of his powers, believes Lionel Messi should resume playing for Blaugrana. Barca striker Lionel Messi is a free agent after his contract expired on June 30, 2021. His future at the Catalan club is still tentative and uncertain as no contract has been signed yet.
Barcelona is facing financial issues which is preventing them to sign a new extended deal with the six times Ballon d’Or winner. Barcelona is currently struggling to offload some players to generate funds for the 34-year-old’s new contract.
Former Barcelona and Brazilian international striker Ronaldinho told TuttoMercatoWeb: “He must stay, he is the history of Barca. When Messi retires, which I hope will be in a long time, he can leave the No 10 there and nobody will touch it again.”
On the other hand, Inter striker Lautaro Martinez praised his Argentina teammate Lionel Messi: “Leo Messi is the best player in the world, he is Argentine, he is ours, he trains to the maximum, he is an example for everyone. He generates in all things that other players don’t. We have to enjoy him and learn from him.”
“I’ll never forget my first day in the national team at the age of 20. He welcomed me. I watched him train and I said it was a dream come true. Messi is very happy to win Copa America, we helped him satisfy his hunger after losing the finals. Now he has won and I am very happy for him,” said Martinez at the press conference, as per Ole.
