Premiere league clubs are interested in signing Neymar. According to Debate (via Diario Gol), Chelsea is one of three Premier League clubs interested in signing Neymar Jr. from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The other two English teams vying for the Brazil icon, whom Les Parisien value at over €100 million, are Manchester City and Newcastle United.
In the summer of 2017, the Brazilian transferred to PSG for a record-breaking €222 million cost. The former Barcelona winger has since won four Ligue 1 championships with the French powerhouse. He appears to be viewed as unnecessary in the Parc des Princes, though.
According to reports, the Ligue 1 powerhouses are looking to relieve some of their financial stress by removing Neymar’s pay from their books. They allegedly opted to sell him in order to raise money for the club’s future plans for Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
Along with Messi and Mbappe, Neymar has been a major contributor to his team’s successful start to the season. His side is in first place in the league after 21 games played across tournaments, and he has tallied 15 goals and 13 assists.
Both Newcastle United and Chelsea might make a statement by signing the Brazilian forward. The Magpies, supported by their new Saudi Arabian owners, may search for a marquee signing to highlight their goals for the European football scene.
Similar goals might be held by Chelsea’s new co-owner, Todd Boehly. It’s unclear, though, whether they’ll be prepared to spend €100 million on Neymar.
Following reports that manager Pep Guardiola visited PSG regarding Neymar last summer, Manchester City has also been mentioned as a prospective destination. At the Spotify Nou Camp, the former Santos forward still has two and a half years left on his deal.
