Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has hailed the return to form of Kevin De Bruyne after his double strike in a 7-0 win over Leeds United in a Premier League football match. The Belgian striker underwent a summer full of injuries followed by a spell out due to coronavirus positive test.
City’s star playmaker had a slow start but he returned to his best on Tuesday night as he helped his team to thrash Leeds adding two goals to the scoresheet. He scored the third goal of the night in the 32nd minute and then in the 62nd minute made it 5-0.
City manager Guardiola said as he hailed de Bruyne: “Kevin trained well the last two days. Against Wolves, he lacked rhythm, but it is not easy to come back [after Covid-19]. In these types of games, that are a bit more open and they put a lot of players in front, Kevin is the best.”
Guardiola added, “We are really pleased he is coming back because we need him. He struggled at the start of the season but hopefully now he can maintain this rhythm longer.”
Guardiola said: “We did a really good game. We dropped five points against Leeds last season, and it was the same guys today, apart from Jack. It was a good game, but the stadium was phenomenal. It was sold out and the players felt it. Thank you so much.”
