Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has shared his belief that Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara would fit into the current Mancunians squad.
“Liverpool are playing with a three in midfield. I don’t think Thiago is mobile enough, so he would fit the role at the heart of it. In a wider position in the three it would be very difficult for him to keep up on the pitch, he’s a different type of player,” said Scholes to Premier League Productions.
“He just needs to sit in the centre. Control the situation, involve other players in the game. That’s what he is good at. I just wonder if his style of play suits Liverpool’s style of play.”
“He doesn’t look like the right player for Jurgen Klopp, does he? His other midfielders and forwards come to mind – all at 100mph.”
“I think Thiago would be more suited to the current Manchester United team. A midfield twosome with a holding midfielder who would be good at defending. Then Thiago would be able to control the game.”
“Klopp’s Liverpool don’t look like a team that controls the game. I can see them gnawing at the throats of opponents. Thiago doesn’t have that energy.”
