Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho has spoken up on midfielder Dele Alli’s performance in the English League Cup quarter-final against Stoke City (3-1).
As part of the starting line-up, Alli played 66 minutes on the pitch. His careless loss of the ball set off a Stoke City counterattack that led to a goal.
“In my opinion, a player in that position should create chances for his team, not problems. They caught us on the counter-attack so I was really angry,” Mourinho said in his post-match press conference.
“We played well in the first half. The opponents played without the ball the whole time, didn’t take shots at our goal and didn’t take any corners. But instead of finishing off the opponent we set ourselves up.”
“We have two tough games ahead of us. It will be tough against any of the remaining teams. We are in the semi-finals – and we will fight.”
