Danilo Pereira and Kylian Mbappe saved another straight defeat in Ligue 1 for Paris Saint-Germain with a victory over Angers. A late penalty from Kylian Mbappe saw PSG come from a goal down and beat Angers 2-1 at Parc des Princes on Friday.
Danilo Pereira’s header after 69 minutes – their first effort on target of the game – canceled out Angelo Fulgini’s deserved opener, but it appeared that would be it for PSG against a side who had not beaten the capital club in 22 league encounters. That is after a VAR check for handball against Pierrick Capelle until Mbappe scored from the penalty spot in the 87th minute of the football match.
Angers had a half-volley saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma as Sofiane Boufal had a half-volley saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma despite having only 28% of the ball in the first half. After another mazy run from Boufal, PSG was alarmed but they failed to learn their lesson, and it was the former Southampton man’s superb cross from the right that gave Fulgini an easy finish for the opener.
After the interval, PSG’s labored effort continued as they failed to find a way to engage Mauro Icardi, with Mbappe too often attempting to break through the Angers defenders on his own. Icardi finally got a shot at goal, and it was pivotal, as his header from point-blank range struck Capelle’s arm, resulting in a penalty following a VAR review.
Snapping his four-game goal drought in the Top Flight, Mbappe took a step forward and comfortably slotted the ball to Paul Bernardoni’s left. Watch football highlights of the Ligue 1 match in which PSG beat Angers after Mbappe’s late goal.
