Man United is now closer to signing £45 million deal. Andre Onana, the custodian for Inter Milan, is allegedly close to being Manchester United’s second summer acquisition.
The Red Devils and Inter are reportedly in negotiations about an Onana compromise, according to Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy. For the Cameroonian goalie, Erik ten Hag’s team submitted an opening offer of £38.5 million (€45 million).
The 27-year-old is valued by the Nerazzurri at £51 million (€60 million). The two European powerhouses are currently negotiating a settlement that could result in an agreement on a £45 million charge plus $5 million in add-ons.
A resolution between all parties is allegedly anticipated before Onana is scheduled to report for preseason practice on July 13. The custodian from Inter is eager to join Ten Hag at Manchester United.
The two previously collaborated at Ajax, where Ten Hag helped Onana develop into a custodian who can play the ball. Under the Dutch strategist, Onana excelled, recording 58 shutouts in 145 games across all competitions.
Onana and Ten Hag both left Ajax for United last summer, but his former custodian moved to the San Siro on a free transfer. In 41 games for the Nerazzurri last season across all competitions, he recorded 19 clean sheets.
After David de Gea’s contract with Manchester United expired on June 30, Onana is destined to take over as the team’s starting custodian. Although the 32-year-old and the club are still in contact, his time at Old Trafford appears to be coming to an end.
Due to his salary, Manchester United is finding it difficult to sell Harry Maguire:
The pay hike for Harry Maguire is a problem for United. As their captain has lost favor with Ten Hag, Manchester United is eager to offload Harry Maguire this summer. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez’s defensive partnership was favored last season by the Dutch tactician.
In 16 league games, Maguire only got eight starts. Although he still has two years left on his contract, the Red Devils are willing to let him go.
According to The Guardian, they are having trouble doing so because of his wage boost following their UEFA Champions League qualification. Before the summer, Ten Hag had a £120 million transfer budget.
Mason Mount, a Chelsea midfielder, cost Manchester United £55 million already. Onana and a new center-forward are also on their radar, so Maguire’s exit might be crucial.
The English defender had a salary of £200,000 before United finished third in the league, according to Salary Sport. That is a challenge for potential suitors who cannot afford such wages.
