At Amex Stadium, Liverpool continued their relentless pursuit of a Premier League points record with victory over Brighton.
To secure three more points with ease the newly-crowned champions looked on course when they went up two inside eight minutes as Brighton made a nightmare start with sights set on Premier League safety.
To set up Mohamed Salah, Naby Keita robbed Davy Propper in a dangerous position, before Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson quickly swept home a superb second from 20 yards.
However, Brighton battled back with real passion and completely deserved to pull back a goal when Leandro Trossard fired a crisp finish from the impressive Tariq Lamptey’s cross past Liverpool keeper Alisson.
Andrew Robertson was headed in by Salah for his season’s 19th league goal and through a few astute substitutions, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp halted Brighton’s advance.
While Liverpool-with 92-is closing in on the 100-point Premier League landmark of Manchester City, Brighton manager Graham Potter, whose side is edging towards preserving their top-flight status, was left to rue those opening minutes.
