In a Premier League match, Manchester United recorded a 0-1 defeat to Aston Villa when Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty goal. Bruno Fernandes apologized on social media after he failed to convert only his second penalty for Manchester United over the weekend’s football match against Aston Villa. English football pundit and former football coach Gary Neville slams Fernandes’ apology proclaiming it “embarrassing.”
According to Gery footballers making public apologies after missing penalties are “embarrassing.” Neville’s remarks come after Manchester United lost 1-0 to Aston Villa at the weekend due to a late goal from the visitors, but there was another twist in the plot when United was awarded a late penalty to ensure the points were shared.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer chose Bruno Fernandes to be United’s designated penalty taker despite the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo on the field. The 27-year-old collected the ball to take the penalty but failed to convert the opportunity with a wild effort.
The Old Trafford club faced their first Premier League defeat of the season as Fernandes’ penalty was deflected into the stands. Following the game, the midfielder took to social media to apologize to fans for missing the golden opportunity.
Now, Neville has slammed Fernandes’ “PR people” decision, calling it “embarrassing” as a former United player turned pundit. “It’s [players apologising for missed penalties] embarrassing,” Neville wrote on social media.
“They need to sack their PR people, speak with some authenticity and get on with it. I’m going to go big on this in the next few weeks. They’ve all got these comms managers, that are creating personalities that don’t exist!” Neville added.
On Wednesday, United will have the opportunity to avenge that defeat when they host Villarreal in the Champions League.
