Barcelona was forced to reduce Memphis Depay’s salary package just three weeks after signing the Dutch international following this action the La Liga club has been left red-faced. Striker Memphis Depay has taken a 30 percent pay cut at Barcelona. Depay rejuvenated his career in Ligue 1 with Lyon after a tumultuous 18 months at Manchester United. He also impressed the Netherlands at Euro 2020.
Originally, Depay was offered a £6 million per year contract with a number of performance-related bonuses according to Goal. However, Barca is unable to pay Depay any amount beyond £4.4 million hence those terms have reportedly been reduced by 30%.
It is noted that Memphis Depay has agreed to a 30 percent pay cut and is happy to help the club. Barcelona announced the transfer of Depay on June 19. In addition, defender Eric Garcia, who returned to his hometown club from Man City this summer for free, has agreed to a wage cut compared to what was originally agreed.
The 27-year-old has been associated with a transfer to the Camp Nou for some time, and when he signed a free transfer from France the rumors got confirmed.
