Djibril Cisse wants the Anfield star to be the Red’s manager. Djibril Cisse, a former striker for Liverpool, wants Steven Gerrard to succeed Jurgen Klopp as boss of the Reds. Since being let go by Aston Villa in October of last year, Gerrard has not held a managerial position.
The status of Klopp is in doubt as a result of the Merseysiders’ unpredictable season. They lost 1-0 to Bournemouth after defeating Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield. The Reds are currently in sixth position in the league, seven points behind fourth-place Tottenham Hotspur, but they do have two games in hand. However, Klopp’s team is eliminated from all cup events.
Gerrard has been mentioned as a potential hire at Anfield in the future. Cisse told bettingsites.co.uk that Klopp should be replaced by a previous teammate from Liverpool. “In my ideal universe, Steven Gerrard would be the next manager of Liverpool. I’d like to see it, regardless of the timing or whether he’s prepared. If Klopp leaves, he could be a suitable replacement for Liverpool because he is intimately familiar with the city and the team.
After a lackluster start to the season, Gerrard was let go from his position at Villa Park. On October 20, the Villains suffered their sixth loss in just 11 Premier League outings, a 3-0 loss to Fulham. After an outstanding run at Rangers, the English boss spent 11 months with Villa before joining the Birmingham-based team.
In just his third season as manager, he led the Ibrox titans to the Scottish Premiership in 2020–21. Celtic’s nine-year reign as champion came to an end after Rangers went undefeated. Of their 33 league contests, they won 28.
“To be honest, he did well at Rangers, but despite some good moments in the Premier League, ended up getting sacked by Villa,” Cisse said in reference to the Liverpool legend’s tenure at Ibrox. But I still believe he has it in him and will make a great boss. It will be wonderful to have him back in charge of a squad because he is a fantastic leader.
The remarkable 3-3 (3-2 penalty shootout) Champions League final victory over AC Milan by Liverpool in 2005 was remembered by Cisse during the halftime team speech given by Gerrard. At halftime, the Reds were down 3-0 to the Rossoneri, but things quickly turned around in the second half. According to what he said to RMC Sport, “Steven gets up and asks all the coaching staff to exit the locker room because he wanted to be alone with the players. Even the physiotherapists who were treating the players departed with the rest of the staff.
Cisse further continued: “Stevie gets up and says that Liverpool is all he has; it is his club, all he has ever known, and he does not want to be the laughingstock of the Champions League’s history. He claims that if we adore and respect him as a captain, we must pick ourselves up and rejoin the game.”
Before Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso finished a remarkable comeback, Gerrard scored first for the Reds. The Merseysiders won the championship thanks to Jerzy Dudek’s outstanding performance in overtime and the following shootout.
