Collymore suggests David De Gea for Manchester United. Stan Collymore, a former Liverpool striker, recently urged Manchester United to sign a top-tier goalkeeper to take David de Gea’s spot in the starting lineup.
Since joining the Red Devils for £19 million in 2011 from Atletico Madrid, De Gea, 32, has been a crucial regular. He has so far assisted them in winning eight titles, including the Premier League title.
The right-footed shot-stopper, who has 45 caps for Spain and whose quick reflexes are renowned, has recently been linked with a move away from Old Trafford as his contract is due to expire in three months. In 42 starts this season, he has kept 18 clean sheets while allowing 46 goals to be scored.
Collymore suggested to Caught Offside that Manchester United attempt to replace De Gea because of his subpar sweeping skills. He said: “I believe it’s time Manchester United did the same. One of the first things Manchester City and Liverpool did when they were looking to move to the next level was to invest in a new goalkeeper. Although David de Gea has been fantastic for United over the years, his passing consistently falls short.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of the Red Devils, will try to sign a sweeper keeper during the upcoming summer transfer season, according to Collymore.
He further added: Erik ten Hag will be looking for a goalkeeper who can play to the traditional Ajax method of playing the ball out and creating attacks from the back and who is at ease with the ball in his hands. De Gea, regrettably, isn’t that kind of player, so United’s top objective this summer will be to find a goalkeeper who can fill De Gea’s gaps.
In an effort to bolster their final line of defense, Manchester United has been connected with Emiliano Martinez, Andre Onana, Jordan Pickford, Diogo Costa, and David Raya.
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are expected to challenge Manchester United for the services of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Emmanuel Kouadio Kone this summer, according to trade expert Fabrizio Romano. He is reportedly worth about €50 million.
Over the past season, Kone, 21, has surfaced as one of the Bundesliga’s most promising midfielders. He joined Borussia Monchengladbach for £8 million in 2021, and in 54 games across all categories, he has contributed two assists and four goals.
Prior to the upcoming 2023–24 season, the Red Devils are anticipated to upgrade their middle. Scott McTominay is most likely to depart while Christian Eriksen and Casemiro are in their early 30s. Additionally, the short-term loan agreement with Marcel Sabitzer is due to end in June.
