Chelsea was ninth in the Premier League when former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel took office in January. In addition to finishing fourth with a three-point cushion over fifth-placed West Ham, Chelsea faces Leicester City in the FA Cup final on 15 May and now has a third Champions League final to look forward to.
The German Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel said, “We are in two finals now and the sacrifice, I personally deserved from day one. I was part of a wonderful club from day one and I got huge support from day one. I am very grateful to be with this team. It was an energetic performance, full of positive attitude and hunger.”
“I showed emotion, I fought hard and I went through moments of grief. I had a great reaction in the second half, and the head was never down, even after a great chance I missed it. We have always been positive and we have continued to work.”
After the first leg ended 1–1 in Madrid, Timo Werner scored Chelsea’s first goal on a night famous for the Blues, before the second final of Mason Mount made it 3–1.
Werner, who spent the final 20 minutes after German striker he was replaced by Christian Pulisic, said, “The last 10 minutes I screamed a lot.” “I didn’t have a voice.”
“When we started with the manager we were nine in the league and now we get everything – on the way to the top four, we can win the Champions League and the FA Cup.”
Former Chelsea and Scotland Pat Pat Nevin speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Even though Manchester City can win the Premier League title against Chelsea on Saturday, it is a huge game for Chelsea.”
This could be the biggest season in Chelsea’s history. They could win both the Champions League – men and women – wins the FA Cup and comes in the top four. On the other hand, it could win absolutely nothing and blow up and miss the top four – and miss the Champions League the following season.
