A tragedy happened that all French media write about after the match between Lorient and Rennes in the 16th round of the French Ligue 1, in which Rennes celebrated as a guest with 3-0.
The match ended and all the players left the field. There were only a few workers on it who came out to set up special spotlights. One of the searchlights fell and killed the groundsman Lorient about ten minutes after the installation.
L’Equipe writes that when heavy equipment crashed on him the groundsman was screaming in pain and those present tried to save him. He was very quickly transferred to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
As it turned out earlier, the deceased groundsman was 38 years old and was a volunteer left behind by a woman with three minor children. A police investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the accident.
