Real Madrid says Xabi Alonso can replace Carlo Ancelotti. Carlo Ancelotti will reportedly be replaced by Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid in the summer. With the Italian player entering his final year, the Spanish team is already making plans for the future.
Xabi Alonso will rejoin Real Madrid after the 2023–24 season, according to a report in BILD. At the team where he played 236 games in midfield, the Spaniard will now take over as manager.
After beginning his coaching career in 2018 with Real Madrid’s youth team, Alonso moved to Real Sociedad B in July 2019. He took over at Bayer Leverkusen in October 2022, and in the 37 games he has played there in all competitions, he has won 17, lost 10, and drawn the same amount.
Ancelotti informed the media via MARCA that he has previously stated his intention to complete his contract at Real Madrid: “Yesterday, Perez and I spoke. In our meeting, he showed me that he was behind me. We discussed the game on Wednesday [versus City], the current season, and the previous two seasons. We continue forward with the same commitment to excellence.”
He added: “I think everyone is aware of my predicament. I want to complete my contract, which is valid until June 30, 2024. Everyone is aware of that.”
Real Madrid has already completed its summer hiring:
Following Brahim Diaz’s loan stint at AC Milan, Real Madrid welcomed him back and announced that the Spaniard will play for them in the upcoming campaign. Fran Garcia and Jude Bellingham have been added, with the Englishman costing a staggering €120 million.
After losing Karim Benzema, they moved for Joselu, who is now on loan at Espanyol. Florentino Perez assured the media that Joselu would be their final signing of the summer.
When asked if the team was going through a change, Carlo Ancelotti responded (via ESPN): “The transformation won’t begin the next year. Even before I got there, the transformation had already begun. When Cristiano Ronaldo left in 2018, this team, which had already accomplished amazing things, began to lose players. The transformation was still ongoing when I arrived, and players like [Raphael] Varane, [Sergio] Ramos, Marcelo, [Gareth Bale], and Isco had all been replaced by young people of exceptional caliber.”
This summer, Kylian Mbappe has been linked to a surprise move to Madrid, but the player and the club have both ruled it out. PSG is in a bind since they are prepared to cash in on Mbappe when he becomes a free agent next summer and are aware of this.
