At the Mestalla stadium Valencia played a magnificent 3-3 draw with Atletico Madrid after two late goals. In the opening 30 minutes of the football match, a cagey first half saw very little created from either side, with Goncalo Guedes’ long-range shot proving the most testing piece of work for either goalkeeper.
However, the reigning champions weren’t dismayed and provided a real moment of quality to find the opener when Luis Suarez took the ball finishing expertly with his weaker foot. His precision finish went in off the post, leaving Jasper Cillessen with no chance of keeping it out.
Five minutes after the break, Valencia found an equaliser through Stefan Savić‘s misfortune as Gonçalo Guedes’ blasted ball across the box cannoned off the defender, leaving Jan Oblak rooted to the spot. Recently, Atlético’s defense has been questionable and this goal marked the ninth consecutive away game in which they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet.
The hosts continued to press and found numerous half-chances in the minutes after the goal. However, the away side took the lead through a quite magical strike from Antoine Griezmann against the run of play. Before striking from 22 metres out into the top corner the Frenchman took the ball from inside his own half, terrorizing three Valencian defenders.
Sime Vrsaljko made it 3-1 to the visitors just 4 minutes later and Atleti appeared to be sailing towards an away victory after the hosts’ momentum was seemingly drained by the two quick goals, coming from Hugo Duro to end up in a 3-3 draw.
