Florentino Perez is clear about Karim Benzema being untouchable at Real Madrid.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti is of the same opinion, and that isn’t going to change.
The striker has one year left on his contract at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
But the club’s directors are convinced that he will spend two more years at the club, until June 2024.
They expect an extension to be signed imminently.
There is no doubt about this at Real Madrid, and that reduces the rush to sign another centre-forward.
There is no hurry and unless the market or the need to sell at the club at the last minute brings it about, it won’t happen this summer.
Finding another Benzema is the task the club are facing, and it’s by no means an easy one.
Ancelotti knows this and is cool as ever when pushed to comment on the matter.
“We’ll come up with something”, Ancelotti stated last summer.
A complicated search
The search is on, but everyone at Real Madrid is aware that it will be long and complicated.
The arrival of Kylian Mbappe and the possibility of him playing as a No.9 would have made things easier.
But that is now history and at Real Madrid, they are not thinking about the PSG forward any longer.
That chapter has closed, at least for a while, and the situation would have to change a lot for him to come back into their plans. Opinion about Mbappe has also changed in the Spanish capital.
Now it’s time to be attentive, to monitor the evolution of certain players and to solve problems, as has happened with Fede Valverde, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior.
For the campaign that kicks off on August 12 in Helsinki, Real Madrid can count on the two Brazilians and Benzema as attacking references, but there is also Eden Hazard who must show commitment to daily work, perseverance and make the most of his opportunities.
