Thomas Delaney’s first-half goal helped Sevilla beat Athletic Bilbao 1-0 in the Spanish football tournament La Liga to close the points gap with table-toppers Real Madrid as we note match updates. Delaney scored the lone goal of the match in the 38th minute. With the win, second-placed Sevilla have 34 points from 16 matches, while top-ranked Real Madrid has 39 points from the same number of matches. Earlier for Sevilla, Delaney made a shot from outside the box on a pass from Gonzalo Montiel, which crossed the goal post. After falling behind in the first half, Bilbao tried to equalize, but Sevilla kept the goal from scoring. However, Sevilla could not score any other goal after this.
In other matches, Valencia beat Elche 2–1 (match results). For Valencia, Goncalo Guedes scored in the 23rd minute to give the team the lead, while Lucas Boye scored for Elche in the 75th minute to equalize. After this, Cristiano Piccini netted another shot for Valencia in the 86th minute, which proved to be decisive. Meanwhile, Alaves played out a 1–1 draw with Getafe, aided by a last-minute goal from Josélu. Enes Unal scored for Getafe in the 20th minute, while Alaves’ Joselu scored in the 86th minute to level the score. However, Florian Lejeune of Alaves was shown the red card in injury time.
In the other match, Espanyol defeated Levante 4-3. Javi Puado scored for Espanyol in the 60th and 76th minutes, while the other goals for the team were scored by Sergi Darder in the 6th and Raul de Tomas in the 49th minute. For Levante, Jorge de Frutos in the 11th minute, Francisco Javier Hidalgo Gomez in the 26th, and Jose Luis Morales scored a goal each in the 57th minute. However, Francisco was shown the red card in the 78th minute.
