Real Madrid beat Real Sociedad on a 2-0 match score in the Spanish league La Liga despite Karim Benzema’s injury. Benzema had to be ruled out due to a muscle strain. He will be tested in the coming days after which his injury will be known. For Real Madrid, Vini Jr. opened the scoring in the second half in the 47th minute and Luka Jovic scored one goal in the 57th minute
It was Real Madrid’s 12th win in the league so far this season, marking the start of a major lead at the top of La Liga, and the team’s eighth consecutive victory at the Real Arena. Manager Carlo Ancelotti said, “It’s a tough place to come and they are a strong part. “We played well and deserved to win after a strong performance. We have this advantage in the lead because we play well, we show that we are a solid team and we get that consistency in our results.”
After a great start to the season, Real Sociedad has now won once in their last five matches and is fifth in the standings. The only disappointment for Real Madrid was that striker Karim Benzema was injured in the first half. Ancelotti later said Benzema was unlikely to be available for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Inter Milan but could play next weekend.
Elsewhere in La Liga, Real Madrid’s rivals Atlético were beaten 2–1 by Mallorca, who came from behind to win by two goals in the last 10 minutes. On the other hand, Barcelona coach Xavi’s undefeated start ended in a 1-0 loss against Real Betis. Barcelona had won two league matches since Xavi’s arrival, but Juanmi’s goal at the end of the second half meant Real Betis climbed to third place in the standings and Barcelona finished seventh.
