Liverpool’s injury woes seem to get worse with each passing day. Captain Jordan Henderson reportedly expected to not face Leicester City on Sunday due to a groin injury, according to DailyMail.
On Monday, Henderson withdrew from the England squad and returned to Liverpool. The hope had been that it was a preventative move. Now, though, The Times’ Paul Joyce says the player hasn’t been training and isn’t expected to play on the weekend.
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, as well as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, and Mohamed Salah, are unavailable to face the side currently one point ahead of the Reds, and now Henderson also joins long-term first-team absences.
There are also concerns about the status of Andrew Robertson, Neco Williams, and Rhys Williams following the international break, though all three are at least not entirely ruled out for the weekend based on the latest reporting.
Meanwhile, with as many as six first-team players currently doubtful: Caglar Soyuncu, Daniel Amartey, Wesley Fofana, Timothy Castagne, Ricardo Pereira, and Wilfred Ndidi, opponents Leicester could be without significant players of their own.
