In recruiting Rayan Cherki until he agreed to a professional deal with Lyon, Manchester United and Real Madrid were also involved, president Jean-Michel Aulas announced.
“He’s definitely a professional that’s going to go to the highest point,” Aulas told Telefoot. “That’s why we have done everything we can to sign him.”
“Real Madrid and Manchester United were the two clubs who were involved when we gained his confidence.”
“We want to see him succeed in Lyon. We want to help him and this is why we’re working to get his career going on. We want him to become not just a leader for our attack in the years to come, but a leader from the academy.”
With Houssem Aouar being linked to a likely transfer to Manchester City or Juventus, OL is facing the possibility of missing another of their youth products, this summer.
However, Aulas has received an update on the state of the innovative midfielder and says there is nothing yet to announce.
“We have not had any proposals or even a request for any information about him for the moment, but I know that many clubs might be interested in him,” he said.
“In any case, our choice is to keep him and we are going to do everything we can to achieve that. The second option is that wherever he wants to play it is up to him. We’ve always favored the place and the club where they wanted to go when players left in the past.”
