Barcelona is unlikely to be overly disappointed, although the Catalan club was unable to bring Memphis Depay or Eric Garcia on the deadline day.
Apparently, these contracts could not be performed because Barca was unable to unload Ousmane Dembele to Manchester United.
Evidently, the Frenchman’s reluctance to agree to an extension of the contract with Barca seems to be what scuppered the move, thus giving him a better resale value at the end of any loan agreement with the Red Devils.
In any event, while the Depay and Garcia deals have been held up, it should actually work more favorably on the long term for the Blaugranes.
According to Mundo Deportivo, that’s because both players will be free to negotiate their exits from Lyon and Man City in January, and they will also be able to sign up as free agents.
The pair will join a side that is still up in January as long as Barcelona is doing relatively well in the meantime.
