David Ospina left the pitch on a stretcher with blood running down his face, Following a crash between two teammates on Thursday night.
The Napoli goalkeeper, formerly from Arsenal, collided into colleague Mario Rui and Atalanta’s Mattia Caldara, after sending the ball high from an Atalanta set-piece.
In the twenty-fifth minute the incident took place as the ball was whipped in by Alejandro Dario Gomez and Ospina put out a strong hand.
Attempting to catch the ball, Rui and Caldara rushed in, and both couldn’t help but hit the goalkeeper.
He was left with a deep cut as a consequence and and blood was shown on the broadcast before being bandaged and rolled out. Alex Meret substituted him.
As the game went on, at the start of the second half ex-Chelsea ma Mario Pasalic brought Atalanta away.
Robin Gosens doubled the advantage from the home side and they saw the game out for a 2-0 win.
Napoli remains sixth whereas Atalanta sits fourth in Serie A.
