Six rounds into the English Premier League, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United are in the top four of the table leading the league. With Everton in fifth place, Tottenham in 8th place while Arsenal dropped to 11th position of the standings respectively. As the English Premier League advance to the 8th week, we have noted down the match review of week 7.
Liverpool vs Manchester City
Manchester City held Jurgen Klopp’s men to an exhilarating 2-2 draw football result at Anfield. Kevin De Bruyne’s late equalizer canceled Mohamed Salah’s sensational strike to ensure a share of the spoils on Merseyside. Man City dominated possession from the very start.
In the second Sadio Mane gave Liverpool the lead slotting the ball past Ederson. Just ten minutes later Pep Guardiola’s men restored the parity with Phil Foden scoring his third goal in his last three games against Liverpool.
It was Foden again who passed the ball to Kevin De Bruyne – the Belgian picked up the ball from a rebound and unleashed a shot into the bottom left corner past helpless Alisson – 2:2. Jurgen Klopp’s squad have extended their unbeaten Premier League record to 17 games making it the longest in England’s top four divisions.
Manchester United vs Everton
Manchester United was held to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford by Everton and following the match, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team has dropped points in consecutive league games. United did go into the interval with a lead thanks to Anthony Martial’s first league goal since February. Everton deservedly leveled due to Townsend’s fifth goal of the season, preventing United from temporarily going top. Ronaldo was introduced from the bench for his 200th Premier League appearance.
After a tense VAR examination for the home crowd, the hosts escaped a late scare as Yerry Mina’s goal was ruled out for offside. For the whole of the first half Everton was arguably the stronger team, and a Michael Keane header in the 16th minute came agonizingly close to opening the scoring. Everton thought they had a winner when Mina tapped in from Tom Davies’ ball, but replays indicated the Colombian had strayed marginally offside, saving United’s blushes.
Chelsea vs Southampton
Chelsea secured a 3-1 victory over Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon. Chelsea seized the lead barely nine minutes with Trevoh Chalobah hitting the net. Chelsea dominated the second half and put the ball in the back of the net two more times.
On the hour mark, Tino Livramento got a penalty for his team, and James Ward-Prowse made no mistake from the spot to tie the game up. Chelsea got the spark they needed, and Werner scored from close range to give them the second goal they needed with just over five minutes left.
After a frenetic goalmouth scramble, Chelsea secured a third in the dying minutes. Ben Chilwell slammed home a shot that required goal-line technology to award after two strikes of the post.
