Borussia has been in good form recently. Breel Embolo, sidelined for partying despite pandemonium, did not contribute to the victory. Borussia Moenchengladbach beat Werder Bremen 1:0 in the first match of the 17th round of the Bundesliga.
After their troubles in December, Borussia Moenchengladbach is back on track. It defeated Werder Bremen 1:0 and thus has four victories and recorded one draw in its last five games.
Borussia dominated from the start but did not have many clear-cut opportunities.
However, Romano Schmid from Werder had two good situations. Once he hit the goal under the crossbar, but Yann Sommer could not be beaten. He then shot into the bottom right corner of the goal, but one of the defenders knocked the ball away.
It was only for the last half hour that Borussia professional Lars Stindl came on. Along with him, Laszlo Benes entered the pitch.
And it was after his cross from a corner that Nico Elvedi hit the net with his head. It was his first goal in this edition of the Bundesliga and his third in all competitions.
In the 87th minute, Werder had a great opportunity to equalize. However, Milot Rashica hit the post and the ball bounced off Sommer, but luckily for him he caught it before the goal line.
Breel Embolo was left out of Borussia’s squad for this match. The Swiss representative is suspected of taking part in the event and thus violating the coronavirus restriction.
Essen police, who interrupted the game, recorded the personal details of the 23 people present but did not provide any information on their names.
