Ramon Calderon says Messi is welcome to join Los Blancos. Ramon Calderon, a former president of Real Madrid, has stated that Lionel Messi would be warmly welcomed by Los Blancos if he opted to transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Given that Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires on June 30, there are questions about his future there. Fabrizio Romano, a transfer analyst, predicts that the forward will depart the French giants as a free agent.
According to the writer, Messi has accepted an offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal for more than €400 million annually. Inter Miami of Major League Soccer is rumored to be interested in signing the 35-year-old.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup champion apparently prefers to continue playing in Europe, much to the dismay of Al-Hilal and Inter Miami. Currently, Messi’s former club Barcelona is the only team on the continent that is interested in signing him. To sign the superstar, the Blaugrana must, however, find a solution to their financial problems.
Despite Messi’s history with Barcelona, Calderon has stated that he would strive to get the forward to Real Madrid if he were in Florentino Perez’s position. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner would be a huge hit with the supporters, the former Los Blancos president continued.
On the Argentine radio program Super Deportivo Radio, when asked if he would recruit Lionel Messi for Real Madrid, Calderon responded as follows (via Infobae):
“He is still a professional player, of course. His remaining playing career is two years at the highest level. You should always strive to keep tabs on him as a player. The best athletes move around as they like. Everyone would welcome Messi with open arms if he chose to join Real Madrid.”
Although Calderon is eager to see the PSG superstar join the mighty Madrid club, it is difficult to imagine that both the player and the team would indicate a willingness to make the trade happen.
