Jorge Mendes offers a swap deal to Barcelona’s FFP situation. In response to Barcelona’s FFP predicament, Jorge Mendes suggests a swap arrangement.
Recently, Jorge Mendes reportedly spent two days in Barcelona working on the contracts of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves and Barcelona winger Ansu Fati.
Helena Condis, a COPE journalist, claims that the Portuguese superagent has been making Neves’ transfer to Barcelona for months (through Relevo). But larger Blaugrana players like Martin Zubimendi and Sofyan Amrabat are better suited for the pivot position.
The topic of Fati’s future in Barcelona is still up for discussion. The 20-year-old wants to stay at Camp Nou, but Mendes has proposed to Barca a trade for Neves and cash in exchange for him.
That could significantly improve Barca’s financial fair play situation by allowing them to create a sizable salary space on their books. In the event of a trade, Barca might value Fati at a high level—say, €70 million—while Wolves might value Neves at €50 million.
After that, both players would switch clubs, and Barca would earn €20 million in cash. As a result, Barca can record a fair play of €90 million (70 + 20).
The amortization of Neves’ transfer fee from the first year, or €12.5, will be subtracted from any four-year contract he signs. Therefore, from such a deal, Barca could put down €77.5 million in their favor, greatly assisting their FFP situation.
However, it is not an easy move to make. While Fati is adamant about sticking with the Blaugrana, regardless of what his father may have said about the club earlier this year, Neves (26), who isn’t entirely persuaded by Barca, is.
Xavi is upset at Barcelona’s play in Osasuna’s victory:
On May 2, Barcelona had to wait until the 85th minute of their La Liga victory over Osasuna to score their first and only goal. In their home match, the Blaugrana had 21 shots and controlled 77% of the ball. However, they were extremely wasteful in the opening stages, managing only four shots on goal.
After being reduced to ten men in the 27th minute of this game, Osasuna tried to earn a point. Barca persisted in applying pressure and won in the final seconds of play. According to Manager Xavi, through Marca (via Football-Espana): “We endured too much, in my opinion. We missed these opportunities. Although they played strong defense, Jordi’s goal finally went in. It’s a crucial action. League victory is imminent.”
Barcelona is presently in the position to claim the La Liga championship for the first time since the 2018–19 campaign. With only five games remaining, they have a 13-point advantage over Real Madrid in second place.
