Xabi Alonso shares his decision for his future at the club. Xabi Alonso, a former Real Madrid player, has ruled out playing for his old team again and has committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen.
Alonso has done well with Die Werkself during his brief tenure as manager, leading them to the Europa League semifinals. Leverkusen trails Jose Mourinho’s team 1-0 in the first leg of their semifinal matchup against AS Roma.
Madrid, Alonso’s former team, has taken note of his outstanding start in the Bay Arena dugout. According to rumors, Los Blancos are considering the Spaniard as a potential Carlo Ancelotti replacement. Brazil’s national team has expressed interest in the Italian coach, whose contract expires in 2024.
The former Real Madrid player, nevertheless, has downplayed rumors that he would succeed Ancelotti soon. Before his team’s matchup with Roma, he was questioned about the connections. He responded (via SportsMole): “Yes, Bayer Leverkusen is where I’ll be staying. At this club and with this team, I’m quite content.”
The Leverkusen star’s contract expires in 2024, the same year as Ancelotti’s term does. It will be interesting to see if Los Blancos still have the Spanish strategist in their sights at that point.
According to the aforementioned source, Tottenham Hotspur of the Premier League has also expressed interest in the great Spanish midfielder. Since taking over for Gerardo Seoane, he has managed 17 victories in 34 games across all competitions.
Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, reiterates his position on staying at the Santiago Bernabeu:
Ancelotti plans to remain at Real Madrid through 2024. Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, has reaffirmed his intention to fulfill the final year of his contract. In his first season back at Los Blancos, the Italian tactician supervised a La Liga and Champions League double.
Madrid, however, had a less successful season this time around because Barcelona won the league. Plans for Ancelotti have been discussed amid Brazilian interest. Before his team’s Champions League semifinal second-leg matchup with Manchester City, he mentioned the following (via Fabrizio Romano): “There are numerous references and murmurs regarding my potential appointment as Brazil’s head coach, but rest assured that nothing is firm.”
Ancelotti has stated that he will stay on the Los Merengues bench for as long as they require him: “I’ll remain at Real Madrid, I say until they want to keep me.”
The well-known Italian manager wants to lead his Madrid team to the Champions League final for a second straight year. They are level after the first leg against City at 1-1.
Real Madrid will have won another double for Ancelotti if they reach the championship game and defeat Inter Milan in Istanbul. On May 6, his team defeated Osasuna 2-1 to win the Copa del Rey.
