Wendell agreed on a one-year extension to his contract, which was set to expire next year. He joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2014.
“Wendell has grown into a big force in our squad over his six years in Leverkusen. As a full-back, he has a profound value on the field and always interacts incredibly deeply with the team and the club as a whole.” Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said.
“Bayer 04 is a good club for Wendell. He’s had some interesting offers in the past but has always remained loyal to us. We’re delighted that we can continue to rely on him.” added managing director Rudi Völler.
Wendell made 27 appearances for ‘Die Werkself’ this season.
