Sinisa Mihajlovic wrote to UEFA demanding that Sporting CP should be frozen out of Europe as it has not paid €3 million in compensation to him for wrongful dismissal.
After being hired by one of the Sporting Presidents at the beginning of June 2018, the new Bologna coach was fired in less than nine days following an ousting in the boardroom.
Portuguese club was ordered to pay Mihajlovic €3 million in compensation as he won the lawsuit in the Employment Tribunal in November 2019.
Mihajlovic’s lawyers have now disclosed a statement saying that this is not valid, as claims from A Bola that the money had been charged.
“Since the start of the year, since the club first recognized this debt, they have done nothing but try to delay payment. Sporting Lisbon as of today has not paid me the money that is owed.
“Sporting made a partial payment when I decided to get UEFA involved because over the last few months, the club put forward numerous proposals, but what has become clear is that all this was just an attempt to postpone the payment.
“I will go back to UEFA to receive the full sum if forced and this behavior is unacceptable. I’ll go all the way, even if it means excluding Sporting from UEFA competitions.”
