Premier League teams will be allowed to sign short-term contract extensions with players whose existing contracts expire on 30 June.
Across the globe, many football leagues have been halted by the suspension of football due to the coronavirus pandemic, since March.
After the UK Government declared its readiness for the professional sport to return from 1 June, with the Premier League pursuing a proposal to revive the current 2019-20 campaign and continue behind closed doors, players from all 20 clubs are now free to sign short-term deals before the end of the season, if necessary.
Premier League chief executive Richard Masters revealed in a statement, “What we decided is to ensure, as far as possible, that clubs complete the season with the same squad they had available, prior to the suspension of the campaign.”
“Players can extend their contracts beyond June 30 until the end of the season, but it must be agreed by both parties.”
Until June 23 every Premier League club will now have to agree on these extensions with their players.
