Mikel Arteta says Mesut Ozil will be back in his team at Arsenal when he proves he wants to perform at his top level.
“From day one I was very open with Mesut,” Arteta said to Goal.
“I thought he was qualified and he wanted to play at the level he can do.”
“I think he’s able to do this again, I’m going to treat him like everyone else.”
Arteta said when asked why he believes Ozil hasn’t been at the required level of training since the players returned from lockdown: “There’s a lot that’s happened to him over the last few weeks and I’ve got to respect the time for every player. They also require a little rest.”
“It’s been a rough preparing in the last two months to have players ready and again, I’m the first who wants Mesut at his best. When I think he can offer his best, I’ll place him on the field.”
“My conversations with Mesut stay between him and me. What I can tell you is that the conversation was totally fine, honest, and clear. He’s been with me really well. There were absolutely no problems at all.”
