Arsenal-linked midfielder Orkun Kokcu’s deal with Feyenoord has been extended. Ending rumors that link him to a move to the Emirates, the 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract.
“Orkun has developed very well last season and has made great strides in its still young career,” said Feyenoord technical director Frank Arnesen. “We would like to reward him for that. Moreover, it is very nice for us that we are able to bind such a talented player to us for longer. “
The Turkey U21 international was closely linked to a move to the Emirates. For Mesut Ozil’s aging Kokcu was believed as a substitute and we described the discrepancies and similarities between two players.
As signing a new deal usually means voicing a willingness to remain in the club longer, for some time now Mikel Arteta will possibly have to forget about the Feyenoord guy.
As it is likely that the scouts of the club will continue to track the development of the youth, the extension of the contract does not mean that Arsenal will not sign the midfielder.
Leaving Arsenal in the midfield with a gaping creativity problem and just Academy product Emile Smith Rowe as the successor to Ozil, the Haarlem-born man, however, probably won’t move to the Emirates in the immediate future.
