VAR has been helpless in modifying the choice of former referee Andujar Oliver who thinks the penalty should not have been bestowed to lead Seville’s opening goal against Real Betis.
Marc Bartra was adjudicated as having fouled Luuk de Jong with a backward move, and Oliver claims that the player made contact with the Dutchman thus the video assistant could not change Mateu Lahoz’s penalty decision.
“It’s not a penalty for me,” Oliver told Radio MARCA.
“VAR can’t stop the referee because there’s touch, but there are thousands of those acts in a match so I don’t think it’s enough to assign a penalty,” he added.
