While the longtime Arsenal midfielder Arsene Wenger suggests he wanted to be positioned in a more serious role, Jack Wilshere claims he and Arsene Wenger could not consider his best game eye to eye.
Wilshere told Arsenal’s In Lockdown podcast. “We disagreed on that a couple of times, but we also laughed,”
“I liked playing a little deeper and being on the pitch, managing the game. And then I began playing midfield for England, naturally, and I loved it.”
“I was playing on the right-wing when I first came into the squad and I really enjoyed it. I never imagined myself playing there but I really enjoyed it, coming in from the right, making either a shot or a through a pass and I really enjoyed it.”
“When I was playing there, things went very well,” he said, “and I felt like I was learning the position and then I came back and had a talk with Arsene and he was like, ’No, I can’t see you playing there.’”
“We didn’t really play the system where there was that one midfielder keeping anyway so I wanted to play in both but he kept playing me in the position No.10 that I loved.”
