The future of the England midfielder at Stamford Bridge has been a topic of concern in recent months, making him a figure in the news.
Mount has been highly linked with a move to Liverpool as well as a departure from Chelsea. The player’s Stamford Bridge contract is slated to expire in the summer of 2024, and negotiations with the Blues on a new deal have not gone well.
According to reports, the 24-year-old currently makes £80,000 per week at Chelsea but would prefer to make roughly £200,000 per week. Gabby Agbonlahor, a former England striker, has said that Mount is not deserving of a contract of £200,000 per week. According to the former Aston Villa attacker, Mount is merely a passable player and not particularly exceptional.
As reported by HITC Sport, Agbonlahor stated to talkSPORT: “In 129 games, he has scored 27 goals. He’s not amazing, is he? Not at all. Statistics indicate that he is not. He is not a particularly good player, but he is adequate.”
Martin Odegaard, the playmaker, and captain for Arsenal, is not even close to Mason Mount, according to Agbonlahor. Added him: “Observe Arsenal. This season, Odegaard has scored 14 goals. In 129 games, Mason Mount has scored 27 goals. He is not improving the team enough to get a new deal of £200,000 per week. His performance is insufficient to merit a new contract.”
In 35 appearances this season across all competitions, Mount has three goals and six assists. He won Chelsea Player of the Year honors the previous two seasons, but his performance this year has been inconsistent.
