Ex Barcelona assistant coach Juan Carlos Unzue has been diagnosed with motor neuron disorder (MND), he has announced.
“I maintain that I handle well, I feel fortunate to have led the life I have and now I feel blessed for what I can do about ALS, which is an illness that everyone can get,” Unzue told a Camp Nou news conference.”
“Together with the Luzon Foundation, I will try to help improve the living conditions. We want to generate a series of challenges or events that will allow us to raise money for research. Hopefully, we will find a solution in the nearest future.”
Between 2014-17 Unzue was an assistant to Luis Enrique at Camp Nou helping the club to win two La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey trophies, and the Champions League, and during his playing days, he represented Barca and Sevilla as a goalkeeper.
