On Monday Monza was promoted to Serie B for the first time since selling AC Milan after its new team, Silvio Berlusconi is looking for a return to the top table of Italian football.
Following Monday’s decision by the Italian Football Federation to end the regular Serie C season and promote the top team from each of the three groups in the division, Monza was one of three clubs that moved up to second-tier alongside Vicenza and Reggina.
“Monza will create a squad ready to go to the top of Serie B.” Berlusconi’s saying was quoted by the local newspaper Il Cittadino.
“Promotion to Serie A will vary depending on a number of factors, some of which are unpredictable, but we know some very well and we will try to get the most out of it.”
For more than 30 years Berlusconi had owned AC Milan and the team won five European Cups and eight Serie A titles.
