To hold Lionel Messi at the club until 2023, Barcelona is reportedly drawing up a new deal.
The Argentine talisman was linked at times this season to a move away from the club following reports of a fall-out with the board and has only one year left on his current deal at Camp Nou.
Mundo Deportivo says now that the deadline has passed that Barca wants to tie Messi to fresh terms, who could have left on a free transfer before June 10.
The deal would take him through until 2023, although if he so desired Messi would have the option to terminate the contract by 2022, claims the report.

Barcelona established the 32-year-old as one of the greatest footballers of all time, for his entire career he has re[resented the Catalan giants scoring 629 goals in 720 games for a club record.
Talks between the two parties are not thought to have started yet, because of the coronavirus pandemic and the desire to prioritize Barcelona’s La Liga title push and Champions League campaign over the coming months.
However, the Spanish champions are expected to sit down for negotiations with Messi’s father as he returns from Argentina.
Since play resumed after the coronavirus pandemic, the six-time winner of the Ballon d’Or has scored in both games in Barcelona, bringing him to 699 career goals for club and country.
