Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has said he “would love” to keep David Luiz at the club this summer.
At the end of the 2019-20 campaign, the existing deal of the center-back at the Emirates Stadium is due to expire, and in recent weeks there has been a host of speculation about his future.
Luiz was originally thought to have entered into a two-year deal with the Gunners upon his arrival from Chelsea, but the contract with the 33-year-old would expire this summer, recently the defender’s agent revealed.
Talking about the Premier League clash with Manchester City on Wednesday, Arteta confirmed he was keen on keeping the Brazil international at the club going into next season.
“I’m really happy with David, I want to keep him here with us. He’s been a key role model since I joined. I like what he produces on the pitch, I like his influence around the players and the club – I would love to keep him,” Arteta told to the press.
Luiz scored twice and provided Arsenal this term with one assist in 32 appearances.
