Manchester City approached Bayern Munich for Leroy Sane with a bid of 35m.
As it stands, German will be out of work this season at Etihad Stadium.
In the run-up to the 2019-20 campaign, Sane had been led to move to the Allianz Arena, but as the attacker took a serious knee injury, the transfer fell by the time.
According to Bild, a bid of £35 m was made by the Bundesliga champions in advance of this summer’s transfer window.
£88 m amount was quoted last summer but the report argues that the German outfit has already settled on personal terms with Sane and is now aiming to deliver it slightly less than the amount.
In 134 appearances for the English champions, the forward scored 39 times and recorded 45 assists after arriving from Schalke 04 ahead of the 2015-16 season.
