Arteta’s Reaction to Manchester City’s Win over Everton. Despite Manchester City pulling four points ahead at the top of the table, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is certain that nothing has changed in the race for the championship.
By defeating Everton 3-0 on Sunday (May 14), the defending league champions got one step closer to retaining their title. Erling Haaland scored once more, while Ilkay Gundogan scored an amazing brace.
Following Manchester City’s triumph, many people believe that the title race is over. As they prepare to play Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal is four points behind them.
Arteta, however, feels that the Gunners just must triumph in their contest, telling Sky Sports: “Nothing changes; we must triumph in our contest. There isn’t anything else we can do. Starting today, we must win [our next three games] to give ourselves the best chance. To defeat Brighton, we have a difficult task ahead of us.”
The high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion team, who are vying for European qualifying, will play Arteta’s men. The Gunners’ chances of winning the title would be severely damaged if they lost to the Seagulls at the Emirates.
Arsenal’s last three games—against Chelsea (May 21), Brighton (May 24), and Brentford (May 28)—will be catered by City. When their match against Roberto De Zerbi’s team is through, they will have played one more game than the Cityzens. As the season draws to a close, they intend to close the difference to just one point.
Guardiola is pleased with City’s win over Everton:
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, turned to the home crowd at the Etihad after his team’s easy 3-0 victory over Everton. Just two more victories would secure the title, the Spanish coach gestured with his two fingers to the City supporters.
Before this weekend’s league action, Guardiola appeared to be manipulating his players. He predicted that Arsenal would triumph in each of their remaining matches. Therefore, he thinks they need two more victories to claim the title of champions.
The City citizens are on track to win a triple in addition to the Premier League championship. They are tied 1-1 with Real Madrid after the first leg of their Champions League semifinal match. The second leg will take place on May 17th. On June 3, they will also compete against Manchester United in the first-ever Manchester derby in an FA Cup final.
