Barcelona is interested in Man United defender Diogo Dalot. According to the Manchester Evening News, Barcelona is one of the teams monitoring Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot ahead of the summer transfer window.
Dalot spent €22 million in 2019 joining the Red Devils from FC Porto of the Portuguese Primeira Liga. The defender, who spent the 2020–21 campaign on loan at AC Milan, has since made 106 appearances for the English powerhouses, scoring three goals and dishing out six assists in the process.
This season, under Erik ten Hag, the Portugal international has played regularly for Manchester United, appearing in 41 games in all competitions. Only four of his career appearances—out of 3,155 total minutes—have been as a substitute.
Nevertheless, Ten Hag lately favored Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Dalot at right-back. In the last three contests for the Old Trafford team, the latter has played for just three minutes.
The recent comeback of Wan-Bissaka might persuade the Red Devils to reconsider their desire to trade him this summer. The aforementioned source claims that the former Crystal Palace player might remain in Manchester after this current campaign.
But according to the article, Ten Hag is still looking to bolster his defense before the 2023–24 season. According to reports, Manchester United spoke with the representatives of Jeremie Frimpong, a star for Bayer Leverkusen.
Dalot may now be able to depart the Premier League’s powerhouses in the summer as a result of this. Next year, the former Porto defender’s contract is set to expire. Although there have been discussions about a new contract, the Red Devils might make a profit off of him.
If Dalot left United, he won’t be without options because, according to the aforementioned source, Barcelona is one of the teams keeping an eye on him. Additionally, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, AC Milan, and AS Roma have expressed interest in him.
A Barcelona player admits negotiations with Manchester United about signing him:
With two goals and four assists in 31 league appearances, Frenkie de Jong has contributed to Barcelona’s La Liga championship this season. The Blaugrana did attempt to take advantage of the Dutchman not too long ago, though.
Last summer, the Catalan club desperately needed to raise money to balance their finances. As a result, according to The Athletic, Barcelona thought about selling De Jong to Manchester United, who was willing to pay a deal worth €75 million.
De Jong, though, decided to remain at the Camp Nou since he had no interest in leaving. In a recent interview, the midfielder stated that he had the choice to sign with the Red Devils last summer, saying: “The club could have sold me for a high price because they were in a tough condition. But I stayed because I didn’t want to leave. Although I wanted to stay, Manchester United spoke to Barça. For as long as I can, I want to stay at Barça.”
Since then, De Jong has proven his value to the Blaugrana, who are now unlikely to sell the international from the Netherlands. His deal with the La Liga champions runs through June 2026.
